Obscenity is a felony in Louisiana. Most obscenity charges are not considered a “Sex Offense” in Louisiana, which would require registration as a sex offender. On a first conviction, whoever commits the crime of obscenity shall be fined not less than $1000 nor more than $2500, or imprisoned, with or without hard labor, for not less than 6 months nor more than 3 years, or both.
